These chilling stories of haunted places in Singapore will keep you up at night! Our team put aside our fears and travelled to these locations for a set of photographs. Are we brave, or stupid? You decide.

Amber Beacon Tower
In 1990, a couple was sitting on the stairs of the Amber Beacon Tower in East Coast Park when they were attacked by two masked men. The male was stabbed in the back, but he was able to fight off the assailant, throwing him over a railing. His girlfriend was stabbed in the neck while attempting to run away. The injured man sought help from a nearby restaurant, and the couple was taken to Singapore General Hospital. The female, Kelly Tan Ah Hong, succumbed to her wounds and died. Till this day, those who pass by the Tower claim to hear the victim’s cry for help. Some even alleged that they saw a female spirit haunting the Tower.
SCARE FACTOR: 3/5. When we climbed up the Tower, we could not deny the air of melancholy surrounding us. We did not feel unwelcomed, though. Our camera captured a glowing orb on the huge tree beside the Tower. Could that have been a wandering spirit?

Pasir Ris Bird-Watching Tower Located in Pasir Ris Beach, Pasir Ris Tower is infamously known as the “Suicide Tower”. By day, it is a tranquil bird-watching tower; by night, things start to get eerie. Legend has it that there was once a boy with a “third eye” that could see spirits. He told his friends that he saw something in the tower. They cycled to the tower at night. The boy ran up to the top level and jumped down. He died on his way to the hospital. Before his demise, he told his friends that he was pushed off by the entities.
From time to time, people claim to have seen two spirits (pontianaks) lingering around the tower.
SCARE FACTOR 5/5. We experienced an unwelcoming aura when we made our way there. One of our members claimed he felt something watching him in the mangrove swamp next to the tower. Faint smells of frangipani filled the top. It was only 6.30pm, barely dark out, but the tower was already sending chills down our spine. We definitely do not recommend going there at night.

Bedok
Bedok Reservoir is known to be the most haunted water body in Singapore, due to the drastic number of suicides between 2011 and 2012. Six dead bodies were found in the Reservoir. People claim to not only hear ghostly wails in the area, but also feel an invisible force pulling them towards the water. Could it be the restless spirits of the suicide victims?
The suicide story of Bedok Block 99 is sure to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. It is rumoured that a woman took her three-year-old son and jumped off the 25th floor when she found out that her husband had a mistress. Before plunging to her death, she scrawled, “It’s not over, darling” on a wall with her blood. Soon after, her husband and his mistress moved in and they had another son, who claimed that he was being haunted by his ‘older brother’. This prompted him to jump out of the window with his arms wide open. His parents found “This is for Mommy” scribbled on a nearby wall.
SCARE FACTOR 2/5. Walking by the riverside felt more relaxing than disturbing. The only terrifying aspects of Bedok Reservoir were the mosquitoes that roamed and feasted on human blood. Block 99, however, seemed unearthly when we stood underneath it.

Changi Beach
Ironically, this place of relaxation is one of the first few Sook Ching Massacre sites during the Japanese Occupation in World War 2. In 1942, 66 Chinese men were bound by ropes and forced towards the water, where the Japanese Firing Squad gunned them down. Those who did not die from the gunfire drowned in the waters. To ensure death, all bodies were recovered and hacked apart by bayonets. Visitors claimed to hear gunshots, crying, and wailing sounds when they walked along the beach.
SCARE FACTOR: 1/5. The beach was filled with happy campers and families bonding over barbecue parties. You could check out the World War 2 mural next to the beach where the Massacre took place, but the beach itself did not seem to have much paranormal activity...
